Strengthening Maritime Safety: GISLI and Tanimbar Police Distribute Life Jackets to Local Fishermen in Saumlaki
On February 4, 2026, the Tanimbar Police Marine and Air Unit (Satpolairud Polres Kepulauan Tanimbar), in partnership with the Gerakan Ingat Selamat Layar Indonesia (GISLI), conducted a social assistance program distributing life jackets to local fishermen residing within the Saumlaki harbor area, Maluku Province.
This initiative aimed to enhance maritime safety awareness and support fishermen by providing personal flotation devices (life jackets) — a critical step to prevent drowning and strengthen safety culture at sea. A total of 25 life jackets were distributed across three key fishing community areas:
-
Ngrimase Fish Market, Saumlaki
-
The fishermen’s settlement behind Al-Nur Grand Mosque, Saumlaki
-
Omele Sifnana Traditional Market, South Tanimbar
The activity was led by IPDA Simon Nusemese, S.H., Head of the Tanimbar Police’s Marine and Air Unit, together with his team. Throughout the event, the team also emphasized the importance of safety preparedness, proper use of life jackets, and solidarity between law enforcement and local maritime communities.
This collaboration between GISLI and the Tanimbar Police reflects a shared commitment to protecting lives at sea and reinforcing the spirit of “Selamat Layar Indonesia” – ensuring that every voyage begins and ends safely.
The event was carried out smoothly in a positive and friendly atmosphere, strengthening relationships between the police and the local fishing community.
