Denpasar, 12 November 2025 – The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) officially opened the FISH Platform Asian Conference 2025 today at the Hyatt Regency Bali. Representing the Director General of Capture Fisheries Lotharia Latif, the opening speech was delivered by Kartono, A.Pi., M.P., Head of Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara (PPN) Pengambengan.
In his remarks read by Kartono, Lotharia Latif underlined Indonesia’s strong commitment to ensuring the health, safety, and decent working conditions of fishers through the Blue Economy Program and the National Action Plan for Small-Scale Fisheries (RAN-PPSK). “Indonesia continues to promote sustainable and fair fisheries governance by strengthening cooperation across governments, industries, and fishing communities,” he conveyed.
The two-day international conference, themed “Health, Safety, and Decent Work for All Fishers,” brings together policymakers and experts from more than 20 countries. Prominent participants include Cor Blonk (Chair, FISH Platform), Alan McCulla (International Fund for Fishing Safety, UK), Nancy Hey (Lloyd’s Register Foundation, UK), Michael Kingston (IMO Consultant, Ireland), Dr. Despoina Andrioti Bygvraa (University of Gothenburg, Sweden), and Dr. Chalermvut Thansuvan (Asian Maritime Technological College, Thailand).
The event will culminate tomorrow, 13 November 2025, with the signing of the Bali Declaration, a global commitment to advancing the health, safety, and dignity of fishers worldwide reflecting Indonesia’s leadership in shaping a fairer and more sustainable fisheries sector.
